AMAC Circle
Privacy Policy
Last updated Oct 13, 2026. This Privacy Policy describes how the American Muslim Advancement Council (“AMAC”), a nonprofit in Bellevue, Washington, collects, uses, and protects personal information in AMAC Circle: the app (org.amacvoters.apps on the App Store, org.amacvoters.app on Google Play) and circle.amacvoters.org.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: your name, email address, city, and how you sign in (a password, or Google or Apple)
- Your profile photo, if you add one
- Your own phone number, if you add it, and, at events you run, the phone number a person gives you when they agree to receive texts
- The people you add to your circle: the names you choose from your phone’s contacts, the public voter record each one is matched to, and what you record about them (notes, conversations, an email address if you add one, and why they didn’t vote). We never collect your whole contact list, and the phone numbers in your contacts stay on your phone
- Estimates about voters: from the public voter file, AMAC estimates how likely each voter is to vote and, from their name, their ethnicity and religion. These are estimates, not facts, and they can be wrong. Circle shows you the likelihood to vote and the ethnicity estimate; religion estimates are used only by AMAC staff
- What you send us when you ask for help, including any screenshot you attach
- Device and technical data: your phone’s push notification token and the app version
- How you use Circle, in the app or on the website: which screens you open, when you add someone, answer a step, log a conversation or send a message, and any errors Circle runs into. This is tied to your account, never to the people in your circle, and helps us improve Circle
2. Legal Basis for Processing
- User consent
- Legitimate interest in civic engagement
- Legal obligations
3. Use of Information
- Provide and improve services
- Enable outreach and communication
- Send you notifications and account emails
- Analyze engagement trends
4. Sharing of Information
We do NOT sell personal data. Inside AMAC, you, the chief captains above you, and AMAC staff can see your account and your circle. Other captains cannot see your circle: they can see that a voter is already in someone’s circle, and whose, but not your notes. A voter’s reason for not voting, and its note, is shared with every captain working with that voter. If you run an event, the people you meet there, and any phone number they give for texts, are seen by you and by the captain who follows up with them. We share data only with the service providers that run Circle for us, and only for that purpose: Amazon Web Services (hosting, storage, and email), Apple and Google (sign-in, and delivering notifications to your phone, including the words of a note from your chief captain), Google Gemini (estimating ethnicity from names in the public voter file), Expo (delivering app updates), and PostHog (showing us how the app is used). We will also share data when required by law. We will not share data with other organizations using the Platform.
5. Data Security
- Everything is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest
- The database itself limits each captain to their own circle, and each chief captain to their team
- Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, and repeated failed sign-ins are slowed down and emailed to you
- AMAC staff access to private voter details, exports and notes is logged
- We monitor our cloud account for unusual activity
In plain words: How AMAC protects your data.
6. Data Retention
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, your name, email, password, city, profile photo, and Google or Apple sign-in are erased right away, and the people in your circle move to your chief captain. AMAC’s internal activity log keeps the entries made before you deleted your account, and we keep a record that you accepted the terms.
7. User Rights
You can delete your account in the app (You, then Account, then Delete my account) or by following circle.amacvoters.org/delete-account.html. You may also:
- Access your data
- Request corrections or deletion
- Opt out of communications
8. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is not intended for individuals under 18.
9. Updates
We may update this Policy periodically.
